Midnight Fried Chicken (gai tawt tieng khuen, ไก่ทอดเที่ยงคืน) is something of an institution in Chiang Mai and it’s something every visitor should try at least once. The chicken is excellent, of course, but they also have an array of Northern favorites like chili dips, sausage and sticky rice. They don’t take reservations and the crowds gather pretty early, so try to get there around midnight if not a little before. Bonus fact – this road, Kamphaeng Din, follows Chiang Mai’s second wall and moat (you can see the remains a bit further up the road).
